During the past month I have received emails from two great guys who both independently of each other decided that a new version and/or update of Anacreon should be created. I have since put them in touch with each other, and they would also both like the input of everyone who plays and loves Anacreon, so I suggested putting this up on the web site, since this is about the only place I know of to get new Anacreon information. Anyway, below are some of the emails they have sent me which I have posted here so you can see what they are planning, ideas they've had, what they need from all of us, etc... If anyone thinks they might be able to help, please email these guys and me and let us know, whether it's just an idea you'd like to see implemented, a great new feature you've come up with, a beautiful new Anacreon logo, or whatever. It doesn't matter, we'd like to hear about it. We need sounds, graphics, ideas, etc. However, be sure to post your idea(s) on the Message Forums, so that everyone else can see it and give their views. I know the board's been pretty dead, but I'd love to see some really good discussions get going on there. You guys have to have some new ideas for gameplay, etc, that would add to the overall game, so get in there and post!

Works like a charm, is there a way to PBM? or over a limited netword (a friend and I have set one up at home using mostly older computers, but I don't think this game will give the old pentiums any problems.  It seems to be set up for multi-play, but changing seats every turn doesn't seem really effective for planting hunter killers, etc. Am seriously considering an update - would the original designer object? Have already spoken to some of my other SD friends and associates and some
seem interested in working on such a project.

The first question the best programmer I know asked was about the source code.  (You mentioned that in your previous note).  If that were available, would be a big help.  A caveat, though, this is still in the idea category.  I am having dinner with two of the other people who would probably be involved in such a project next Friday, if you have any helpful info by then, I could present it and see where it would go from there.  But we are definitely talking about it, and last Tuesday even sketched out possible graphic interfaces.  Debated 3D star maps or not.  Those can look really cool, but in practice sometimes don't work well in terms of strategy - and that is defenitely what this game is about.

Currently working on a PDA app that is taking some time, but have done some prelims.  Am very intersted in getting together with others interested in project.  Will have more free time in the next week or two than have had recently (covering for someone with family emergency, sick mother).  Also, had emailed you some basic concept decisions we have been trying to make, such as 3d or 2d maps, etc.  Would like some input from other gamers. Nothing irritates me more than a clumsy interface and would like some suggestions on what others like most.  Let me know, and yes forward my address to others intersted

Thank you, any help would be appreciated. But more importantly, I need two things from the authors, first I need permission, second I need formulas such as but not limited to How industries are computed, how usage is computed, how production is computed, how enemy empires think, and if adding a larger variety of ships would be okay. To commemorate the earlier versions, Anacreon should remain a low graphic game, but it is time it moves past the text based part. I would want to replace  "P" with a small planet and so on with other text symbols. Well That is all for now.

Because it is now public domain, does that give anyone the right to make their own version? I have never delt with anthing like this before. All my software has
been original. If I can make the program without his permission, then I will, but massive testing that he already completed will have to be redone. For example A planet of 50Billion has 100% effeciency and so on... what is the formula that it produces trillium? I know it has a lot more to do with just population and efficiency, but that was an example. Plus, do you thing it would be good to make the game turn based (as it is now) or concurent(all play at same time). Tell me what you and others think?

is the following
1. 5000 Chemical
2. 5000 Metal
3. 5000 Food
4. 2500 Trillium
A spy will turn for +-25% of the above ratings.

These are only a few of the added benefits. I was also thinking that in real life, we can choose if we want to produce 1000 fighters or 100 starships. So we could choose where the resources go using a RESOURCE ORDER command, if no orders are given, two things could happen. Planets could have a one year instruction, or they could be default (how they are now, produce a little of everything)

The following would be great, could you also put up a message that i am seeking the author. That way if anyone has an idea they might help. There is a George with the same last name as the anacreon george that worked on Chon X or something. He works for a company called Genetic Anolamies or silimar to that. I do not know if it is the same george thought.

I am looking for some graphics for the new version of Anacreon. Here is what I need. I have made some graphics, my artist brother has made some, but anyone that can make some will have a chance at being used in the program.

A small planet to take place of   "P"

Larger (but still small) planets to display on the close up screen.

A windows (Clear and Crisp) Bitmap file of the sword throught planet (Anacreon Logo)

I will eventually need a small graphic to show a fleet instead of the arrow.

I will also eventaully need a picture of each type of ship. Battle screen will now be full screen. Also I need some input on whether computer should carry out battles, or whether player should move ships around in battle?

I also need some sounds, I have made some too, but all are welcome?

A planet or fleet of yours has been taken over sound
A fleet/planet of yours has been attaked sound
Riot Sound
Starving Sound
Drug Withdrawel Sound
Win Battle Sound

A sound that beeps every five seconds when turn time is running out.

More sounds and graphics may be needed later. If you think you know some that may be needed send them to me. If you know anyone that likes to make graphics or sounds send them this message. Please note, sounds may be sounds or  voice confirmations. Also note if five planets were taken over by the enemy, the sound will
only be run once. All sounds and images will be embeded into the program. Program will require Hard Drive, but that should not be a problem in todays world.
