Pluggin' Away...
Still doing the school and work thing, and have decided to stop trying to get everything all nicely formatted and just right before putting things up, or I may never get anything up. I'm assuming you guys would rather see new stuff that's a little disorganized and messy than nothing at all. :)

Still Here...!
This is mostly just a quick update to let you know that I'm still alive and still busy, as you might have guessed. I'm going to make an effort to at least try to update monthly, if not more often, but you've heard that before, so we'll see how it goes. Still, I wantd you to know that I haven't stopped caring about this site, and it *isn't* dead (It just looks that way sometimes...). Also, I'm looking at branching out and putting up more information for the other retro games, some links and information about some of my favorite games (Besides Anacreon, of course), and maybe even some quicky game reviews. Again, I'm still alive and if not well, then at least willing, or something. :) Stay tuned, as they say...

New Forums Up!
Well, it's been about 6 months since I updated, and as usual, it's because I've been busy with school, family, work, etc. However, I have decided to try and make this more of a community site, and therefore have put up new forums. We had a message board of sorts before, but as any of you who have used it will attest to, it's not that great, being slow, cumbersome, and loses old messages pretty quickly. The new forums are the Ezboard format, which is pretty popular around the web, and thus hopefully familiar to a lot of you. Please jump in and start posting, as I really think this will help keep the community active and alive. The forums are at

Quick Update for the Benefit of the Hoffyland Mirror Site.
I got an email a week or more back and almost missed it because it was sent to the
tjpete@utah-inter.net email address, which I hardly ever check, and which will be permanently defunct soon. Please use the autumns_twilight@yahoo.com address. Anyway, I realized that I hadn't updated the http://anacreon.hoffyland.com Mirror site in quite a while (Partly due to a lost FTP password), and so finding the password, I quickly updated that site to be current with the main site, which is http://blake.prohosting.com/~tjpete and which is where I would prefer everyone went to, just to keep things easier. For those of you who have been accessing the Hoffyland page, please check the Old News Archive to see what you've missed. In my next update I will let you know about an exciting new Anacreon Reconstruction Project, which needs help from people willing to donate skills and time. More on that soon...

Anacreon on Telnet?
I received an email from a nice guy who has a BBS up accessible through Telnet, and you can play Anacreon on it! Anyway, I only glanced at it, so you'll have to check it out to see how well it plays, but it's at least one more way to play Anacreon... I put up the link and email from him on the Anacreon Links Page
Here! Also, the forthcoming scenario by Chevar, entitled Operation: Holy War, is now available for download on the scenario page Here. Also, in the next few days I'll be putting up a new Anacreon logo for download created by an Anacreon fan, as well as my Anacreon Combat simulator, and then a little bit later, the BASIC code for it (I wrote it years ago...). So stay tuned!

The Renovation Continues...
I've continued with the renovation of this site. I took out the dead link on the Anacreon Links page, and finally put up several new Anacreon scenarios that people have sent to me. Please feel free to send in more scenarios, which will be put up much more quickly than previously. To those of you who waited so long, they are finally up, and I'm sorry it took so long to put up. Being a dad keeps me pretty busy sometimes. If I have mislabeled anyone's scenario, or failed to give someone credit for one, etc, please let me know. Anyway,. you can check out the new scenarios (Which have a (*NEW*) label on them)
Here!

Anacreon Message Forums On-Line!
I'm trying to make this site more of a place where fellow Anacreon players can meet up with each other and discuss everything about it from their best strategies and favorite games, to suggestions and status reports on the Anacreon Reconstruction Project. To help with this I have revamped the message forums by getting a better host for them. Please check them out and post something
Here!

Hmm, how time flies...
Well, it's now been nearly a year since I've last updated the page, as many of you have no doubt noticed, and for that, I'm sorry. Being married and having a baby boy (4 months old now!), as well as going to school and work have kept me rather busy, and I always seemed to get side-tracked onto something else. Well, I'm going to try to put an end to the lack of updates and keep the new stuff coming. This site continues to receive a trickle of hits averaging around 4 or 5 a day, so someone must be checking up on the site. Guess I'd better get cracking. Again, sorry for the long absence, but I'm still here!

"The Anacreon Reconstruction Project" - A New Beginning?...

I know it's been while since I updated, as usual. My wife's pregnant, and that combined with work and moving (Just a couple of miles away) has kept me pretty busy (although I'll be sneaking in a small LAN party with a couple of my friends on Saturday). However, I have very good news for everyone! I have been emailed by a couple of visitors to this website, and they both are interested in doing an update/new version of Anacreon: Reconstruction 4021! They would like to have feedback from all of you, the people who love this game, and any help they can get, from programming to just ideas or graphics. Anyway, to find out what this is all about, go to
The Anacreon Reconstruction Project  by clicking on the link and help us rebuild Anacreon!

Some Reformatting and Trimming

Naturally, I didn't get nearly as much done as I had hoped, but I did try to unclutter the main page, as well as some other things I had been meaning to do. First of all, I took most of the old(er) news and put it into an Old News Archive, which you can visit by using the above link, to see all of the old news updates. I moved the Anacreon Overview to the Anacreon Page, and put the link to the Classic Retro Games page up above too. I fiddled a little bit with the Retro page and you can now download Pyro22.zip there. Descriptions for the other games, screenshots, and even new (So to speak, of course...) classic games will make an appearance in the future. I'm hoping to make this site still the World Anacreon Headquarters, but also a site for those sorts of games that, like Anacreon, may have been old, or lacked good graphics, or even graphics period, but whose outstanding gameplay and timelessness make it a classic. If you like Anacreon, you may like some of these others also. They'll be of different categories, so they're not all space strategy games, but all classics, at least in my opinion. Stick around...

Just Another Update

Hmm, well, I haven't updated every week, but I HAVE done it twice this month, so perhaps that's something to be happy about. This weekend I should have some time on my hands and I will try to update by putting up some if not all of the original art that was in the Anacreon manual. If, like yourself, you never had the chance to order and receive Anacreon, this is some art that was contained in the manual, some of it done by George Moromisato himself. Also I will work on updating the Classic Retro Games page, by putting some more descriptions up, by perhaps adding some screenshots (If I can find the right utility), and by maybe even putting these games up for download so that you can actually *try* them out (Wouldn't that be nice, after reading the descriptions and seeing the pictures and all?...). Well, as usual, this may be a bit ambitious just for this weekend, but we'll see what happens. Of course, if you have any questions or comments or suggestions, then please
Email Me.

Little updates and Russian Anacreon players

Ok, I know, I was going to update things in just a few days, but, well, I didn't. I almost always seem to get about 2-5 hits a day, so you guys (and girls) must still keep checking to see what else is new on here. Unfortunately, I've been lax in updating, and for this I apologize. My tendancy is to want to do everything in one big update, but then the problem comes in the form of me never feeling like putting that much time into it all at once (At least not lately...). However, if I just do little piecemeal updates, which are easier to manage and means updates more often, then everyone should be happier. Anyway, if you haven't already guessed, this is one of the little wimpy updates, just to let you know that I haven't forgotten about you or this page, and I'm going to do my best to update at least once a week, even if nothing particularly exciting has happened, just so you can know that I'm still alive. Again sorry about this, and thanks so much for your patience with me and the page.

Incidentally, if anyone out there knows Russian, or knows of a way to translate English into Russian, please Email Me as I have had a Russian Anacreon player contact me through email (As he has email only, and no Internet access), having seen a copy of an echo or something of my posting on the newsgroups about this Anacreon page. Anyway, his English is not the best, and he would *love* to have a copy of the Anacreon Manual in Russian, somewhat for himself, but also for his many friends in Russia who speak even less English than he does, and want to be able to play Anacreon effectively (Which is difficult to do when you have to learn only from others...). I have found a web site that does translations for many different languages into many others. It's free, but the snag is that the Russian Cyrillic character set keeps screwing up and not coming out the right way, especially when I try to email it to this poor guy. I'll post the site later when I find the bookmark again (Still haven't transferred everything over from my old install of Win98.) Well, anyway, if anybody could give me a hand with this, I would appreciate it, and you would be helping to make some more people able to play this wonderful game Anacreon. As always, feel free to contact me about this, or anything else through Email

Sorry for the delay...

Hello again! Sorry for taking so long, but I'm finished with finals and school (At least until the next semester...), and so I will be doing some more frequent updates in the future. This will be a small update because I am finishing my preparations for reinstalling Windows 98 on my machine, just to make sure I don't lose anything in the transfer. If, for some reason you don't see any updates for a little while, that could be why, but I suspect that it will just be a day or two until everything is running smoothly again. I'm probably going to try to reorganize the format of the main page (The one you're on now) especially as pertaining to the News to help make things more readable and less cluttered. Also, I am planning on putting up a list of of people that would be interested in playing Anacreon games through Email. If you are interested in being listed, please
Email Me with your Name and/or Alias, and email address, along with any other information you would like others to know about (What sort of scenario you are looking for, your experience or lack thereof with Anacreon, etc...). Also, there have been complaints from some about the color scheme of this site (Red on black) as being too difficult to read, (Too dark, colors clash too much, etc...) so I will be putting up a poll in a day or so asking everyone their opinion on it, and if enough people want me to change it, I will, since I've made this web site for all of you, not me. As always, email me with any suggestions of things you would like to see changed/added/etc on the site, and also thanks to all of you who keep checking the site for updates. Its nice to see the site almost always getting at least two hits a day!

Happy Birthday and an Interview with George Moromisato

Happy Birthday to me! Yes, today is my birthday, and I have reached the venerable old age of 23. I'm sorry that I haven't updated the site for the past week, but I'm trying to finish off all of my school assignments and get ready for finals, which are the first week of May, so I won't be able to do a whole lot on the site until after then. However, I still try to answer any emails that anyone sends me, so please, let me know what you want to see on this site, what I could improve, questions you have, anything! The Anacreon Combat Simulator is going to have to wait until after finals too, unless I finish things faster than I think I will.

However, I have come across an interview on the Web with Anacreon's creator, George Moromisato. Chris Demwell, who runs a website with a single Anacreon page (Which was one of the inspirations for this web site), helped track Mr. Moromisato down. Then Audyssey, a magazine which "is dedicated to the discussion of games which, either by accident or by design, are accessible to the blind.", had a few questions to George about Anacreon, such as why he no longer supports the game, his feelings on it, and some other things which I, and probably a lot of you, have been wondering about. The article is a couple of years old, but I still think you will find it very interesting. Check the link for it on the Strategies/Information page, or to go straight to it click Here

Speaking of Chris Demwell, I have put up a links section on the Anacreon page that will list other websites devoted to Anacreon, or at least with some Anacreon content. If you have a website with some Anacreon content on it, or know of one that does, please let me know, and I will put it on the list. Go straight to it Here

Anacreon Combat Statistics Chart

I updated (Read that as actually added something to) the Anacreon Strategies page, changing it in the process to the Anacreon Strategies/Information page. I put up a Ship Combat Efficiency Chart that I made years back which lays out how effective every ship type is against every other ship type. I discovered the stats for this chart by painstaking repeated engagements with just me playing a two player game, numerous restarts from the same save, double-checking, and a calculator. Along with the chart I have included an explanation of how the numbers work, and an example of a four round battle between 3000 Fighters and 800 Jumpships, with the casualties figured out using the chart.

Incidentally, I plan on putting up a C++ program (And probably the source, too, not that it's complex or anything) that will automatically calculate battle casualties between two ship types round by round using these statistics. Who do you think will win? Go and check to see if you're right on the Strategies/Information page, or click Here to go straight to it.

The News Has Begun

I started the NEWS section today, which is what you are feasting (Or perhaps starving would be a more appropriate term) your eyes on right now! This is so you will know that this page is being updated and what things are being added, changed, etc. Obviously, I have the game itself, the Registered Version 1.30 available for download, and all of the scenarios I have come across to date. However, I would like to add brief descriptions for them, as well as putting up some strategies. Eventually, as we get more scenarios done, I would like to start putting up reviews of them. Of course, I also need to work on the Anacreon FAQ, but this will take some more time.

Again, let me emphasize that I welcome submissions of scenarios, strategies, comments, criticisms, or just about anything else, even if it's just to let me know that you've been here and what you think. It's very encouraging for me to receive emails and see messages on the board. It lets me know that there are people who share my love of Anacreon, and that they are getting something out of this site. Anyway, I'll try to keep everyone informed as to what's going on, which reminds me, I've thought of perhaps doing a Anacreon newsletter through email. What do you think? I'll try to make this site the best it can be, and one that you will all think is great, but I'll need your help...
